“Do the one thing you think you cannot do. Fail at it. Try again. Do better the second time. The only people who never tumble are those who never mount the high wire. This is your moment. Own it.”
– Oprah Winfrey

The economy is in doldrums!
Unemployment is close to 10%!
Real estate is a mess!
My company does not offer me any support!
We only work with open listings and the competition is too much!
November is really a slow month for rentals!
My broker did not give me any or enough training!

What are these? Excuses or reality?

Here is my opinion! I believe they are excuses. The economy is great, real estate is great, November is a great month, my broker is great – Oops! I am the broker! – And one can make money with open listings!

Words are cheap!

Let me prove that my message is true and that champion rental agents are MADE, not born. In November of 2010 I proved every single one of the above excuses to be false! I became a rental agent and showed apartments just like a regular agent. My commitment was to make at least $17,500 in commissions for myself in November 2010. By doing it I wanted to prove the skeptics wrong!

Here are the results:

1. Stuy Town: Dominick $3,600 (1 bedroom lease signed)
2. City & Suburban: Monica $1,875 (1 bedroom lease signed)
3. City & Suburban: Anna & Diana $2,350 (2 bedroom lease signed)
4. City & Suburban: Elissa $1,995 (Commission was $2,995) (1 bedroom lease signed)
5. City & Suburban: Heather $1,575 (studio lease signed)
6. Stuy Town: Oresta and Wilson $3,007 (1 bedroom lease signed)
7. City & Suburban: Shannon $1,795 (1 bedroom lease signed)
8. City & suburban: John and John $1,910 (1 bedroom share lease signed)
Total: $19,107.

$19,107 in a month! Multiply that by 12 months and it is $229,284 annually! I rest my case!

Remember! It is not just what you will learn, but more important what you will unlearn that will make you a CHAMPION! Champions are MADE, not born!

Do NOT let anyone tell you different. I am talking to you from the very depths of my soul. Wake up the Champion within you. You never get what you WANT in life, but what you DESERVE. What that means is you can learn to be a Champion and live the life you deserve. I hope you do!

None of the above apartments were exclusives. All the apartments were open listings. All the apartments are available to any agent that had a valid real estate license in the State of New York.

No one, no one can come up to me and say the economy is bad, the real estate market is bad or the company they work for does not have enough listings or their manager does not like them. PLAIN EXCUSES. No reason for excuses.

Ladies and Gentlemen: Imagine this for a second. You wake up in the morning on the first of a month. And someone comes and takes away everything you own. Everything. Your apartment is gone, your savings account and all your assets. All you have is the clothes on your back. That very person puts you in a cab and takes you to the center of the world, Times Square. There he hands you a cell phone and a $100 bill.

A Champion agent will take the cell phone and $100 and convert it into $19,107 at the end of the month. That is the power of being a Champion salesperson. You don‘t need to beg for a job from anyone and you don‘t need to answer to anyone. You don‘t have to go to work at a certain time. You are the master of your own destiny! You live a free life! You work when you want to and you rest when you want to! This is the freedom a career in selling gives you. Real Estate is merely the product. Selling gives you the power to go to sleep like a baby at night because when you wake up, you can count on your skills to provide a great living and lifestyle! A champion salesperson is always in demand.

Don’t let anyone, especially yourself, tell you that you don‘t have the potential to be a Champion. Because you do! You have the potential! I believe that with every fiber in me that if one will truly apply themselves and never quit, they will succeed and become a champion!

Besides my story, there are 10 others stories of TOP agents in this book who started in rentals and today have successful careers in real estate.

The Buddha said, “You become what you think.”
Henry Ford said, “If you think you’re right, you’re right! However, if you think you’re wrong, you’re right too!”
Think deeply about what these two amazing men have to say.
